Due to his inability to heed team counsel, Eagles defensive coordinator Sean Desai completely lost control over third-down game planning during the team’s Week 10 bye.
Defensive coordinator Sean Desai was denied the authority to call defensive plays by the Eagles two weeks ago. The process of reducing Desai’s power started a few weeks ago.
According to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, coach Nick Sirianni opted to relieve Desai of his third-down gameplanning duties during the team’s Week 10 bye.
Desai took over for Jonathan Gannon, who after Super Bowl LVII joined the Cardinals as head coach. According to reports, the Eagles intended to replace Gannon with consultant Vic Fangio. When they learned that Gannon intended to depart, it would be too late to retain Fangio.
Desai is in his second year leading the defense. Desai spent two years as the safeties coach and six years as a quality-control coach before spending a year in Chicago as the defensive coordinator. Before joining the Eagles as their defensive coordinator in 2022, he served as associate head coach and defensive assistant with the Seahawks.
Matt In a sense, Patricia has assumed Desai’s role. Whether Patricia or someone else leads the defense in 2024 is still up in the air.
