The Chiefs have suffered a tremendous setback, as Andy Reid has regretfully declared that…..
Willie Gay Jr., a linebacker for the Kansas City Chiefs, suffered a neck injury during the team’s 27-24 victory over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Divisional Round of the playoffs. Gay Jr. never played again.
After the game, head coach Andy Reid reaffirmed the nature of Gay’s injury, but Gay posted his own status update on X, formerly known as Twitter.
After the game, Gay wrote “THANK YOU JESUS” on X. Then, a fan said, “You good king?” in response to Gay’s remark. “Ima be great on game day,” Gay said, implying that he would be ready for the AFC Championship game against the Baltimore Ravens.
Chiefs get to play in the AFC Championship
With the victory over Buffalo, the Chiefs advance to the AFC Championship for the sixth consecutive year.
The game was eventually lost by the Chiefs due to a failed field goal by Bills kicker Tyler Bass late in the fourth quarter, after both teams had traded blows for four quarters.
Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback for the Chiefs, completed 17 of 23 pass attempts for 215 yards and two touchdowns while committing no turnovers. In addition, he gained 19 yards on 6 carries.
Tight end Travis Kelce was Kansas City’s top receiver of the game, catching five of six targets for 75 yards and hauling in both of Mahomes’ touchdown touchdowns. After the game, the pair’s second touchdown broke the previous record held by Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski (15 touchdowns each) for the most touchdowns by a quarterback and tight end in NFL postseason history (16).
Running back Isiah Pacheco was the Chiefs’ top rusher against the Bills, gaining 97 yards on 15 carries (averaging 6.4 yards per carry) and scoring one touchdown on the ground.
The Kansas City defense didn’t force any turnovers and didn’t sack quarterback Josh Allen in order to narrowly prevail in Buffalo. Although Allen averaged 4.8 yards per completion due to the Chiefs’ defense, they also forced two crucial long passes to be incomplete late in the fourth quarter, which was followed by Bass’s missed field goal with 1:47 remaining in the game.
Reactions on Twitter and X to Chiefs’ Win Against Bills
Following Kansas City’s AFC Divisional Round victory over Buffalo, users on X shared their reactions.
“Another pillar added to Mahomes’ impressive record of career victories… Playoff victory on the road against the generation’s preeminent quarterback had an opportunity to stack it against this year’s MVP next week,” a user said.
“Mahomes still makes it to the AFC Championship game despite having the poorest team he has ever played for. We’re watching something incredible,” a different user commented.
“And Patrick’s remarkable likely first ballot Hall of Fame CV now includes a postseason road victory! Even though the game was close and tense, our guys performed what had to be done! SUCCESS! Let’s head to Baltimore! A another user wrote.
What a game, man! Huge admiration for Josh Allen, who is among the league’s top “dual threat” quarterbacks. On to BAL,” wrote a different user.
