Fantastic news, The new Jersey Devils recall a quality player who was rejected
Following the leaves of absence for Cal Foote and Michael McLeod, the Devils recall Justin Dowling and Daniil Misyul.
On Thursday, the Devils made the announcement that they had called up Utica’s defenseman Daniil Misyul and winger Justin Dowling.
Prior to the Devils’ game against the Hurricanes on Thursday, Misyul and Dowling had both joined the team in North Carolina.
With Utica this season, Dowling, 33, has eight goals and eleven assists. He has played in 98 NHL games. During the 2021–2022 NHL season, Dowling was a member of the Vancouver Canucks. He has 12 assists and six career goals.
Misyul, 23, is now playing in his debut season in North America, and this is his first call-up to the NHL. Misyul has three goals and eight assists in 30 games with Utica.
The team gave Cal Foote and Michael McLeod leaves of absence one day prior to Thursday’s recalls. Five members of the Canadian World Juniors team from 2018—including both players—are accused of sexual assault.

Division-foe Hurricanes destroy the Devils in a 3-2 setback.
(AP)—RALEIGH, N.C. The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Devils 3-2 on Thursday night, with goals and assists from Teuvo Teravainen and Sebastian Aho.
In the second period, a puck hit New Jersey head coach Lindy Ruff in the face. He started the game positioned behind the bench and didn’t come out until the third period. Travis Green, an associate coach, led the team the remaining distance.
The Hurricanes, who have won three straight, also received a goal from Jordan Staal. 23 saves were made by Antti Raanta.
The goals for New Jersey came from Justin Dowling and Jesper Bratt in the third quarter. It was Dowling’s first NHL game of the season, and he was making his Devils debut.
Following Carolina’s third goal, Nico Daws was substituted. Before Vitek Vanecek came in to save 11 shots in relief, he stopped nine out of twelve.
The Hurricanes are 10-2-1 since Christmas, having triumphed in Boston the previous evening.
This was the clubs’ first meeting since Carolina emerged victorious in five games in the postseason’s second round last spring.
Ninety seconds into the game, Aho’s 17th goal of the season gave the club the lead. He beat Daws with a shot, skating in from the blue line.
At 2:54 of the second period, Teravainen scored the second goal for Carolina after winning the opening faceoff of the Hurricanes’ first power play of the match. Half a minute later, Staal scored his first goal in 14 games.
It took the Devils almost 12 minutes to register a shot on goal in the second period. The third quarter saw four shots for the Hurricanes.
