One more terrible wound from Pride Nation….

The NBA’s New Year’s celebration began sooner than anticipated when the New York Knicks pulled off a spectacular deal for Toronto Raptors player O.G. Anunoby.

The unexpected action has raised speculation regarding these NBA contenders’ trade market tactics for the upcoming months.

The Knicks acquired Precious Achiuwa, Malachi Flynn, and the much sought-after O.G. Anunoby in exchange for Immanuel Quickley, RJ Barrett, and a 2024 second round pick on boxing day.

The Knicks seem to have a wider breadth of talent when looking at things on paper. However, what does this mean for the dynamics that both teams and the league as a whole will face in the future?

Without a doubt, the most important person involved in this move is Anunoby. Over the past year, there have been whispers throughout the league about a possible deal involving the talented forward.

Now that the dust has settled, the Raptors intend to reorganize their team around Scottie Barnes, a talented rookie.

Anunoby offers the Knicks a well-rounded offensive threat and strong defensive game.

Being able to score points while keeping opponents from doing so makes him one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA, which is a huge advantage for the Knicks.

A set of abilities that are just right to cause ripples in the Eastern Conference. The Knicks make it obvious that they intend to commit fully to their current roster with this aggressive trade.

Although Anunoby’s presence does not ensure the title, it does move them one step closer to the spotlight of the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Add to this the speculation—promoted by SNY’s Ian Begley—that the Knicks might not be through with their trades just yet.

Though the Knicks made a smart move in purchasing Anunoby, they still hold onto their future first-round picks.

These might be the ideal bait to catch another large fish in their quest for fame. Donovan Mitchell of the Utah Jazz has been the main name associated with the Knicks.

A trade for him would increase the Knicks’ season-long aspirations even more. Before the trade deadline, the team could, nevertheless, pursue a wide range of other options.

In order to strengthen their roster, the Knicks may need to bring in another center due to persistent worries regarding Mitchell Robinson’s availability.

To enhance the abilities of Julius Randle and Jalen Brunson, there is also room for another competent 3-and-D wing to be added.

The Knicks’ need for greater tactical balance and depth in their roster appears to be the driving force behind their intentions for the upcoming months.
