Heartbreak: Nick Nures wife has confirmed yet another heinous act and…

June 1, 2023, Philadelphia, PA Nick Nurse will lead the Philadelphia 76ers, as President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey announced today. The deal’s terms were not revealed in accordance with team policy.

Nurse, who spent five seasons as Toronto’s head coach from 2018 to 23, becomes the 26th head coach in franchise history when he joins Philadelphia. The Carroll, Iowa, native became the ninth person in NBA history to win an NBA championship in his first season as head coach in 2019 when he led the Raptors to victory.

Managing Partner Josh Harris stated, “Nick has proven to be one of the NBA’s best coaches, and I’m thrilled to have him here in Philadelphia.” He has triumphed on many platforms during his career, most notably the biggest one—leading Toronto to the 2019 NBA championship. He is an astute, creative, and driven coach who truly made an impression during this process. Despite the obstacles we’ve encountered, winning a championship for Philadelphia is still our main objective, and Nick is the ideal coach to guide us there.

“We are ecstatic to have Nick Nurse join the Philadelphia 76ers as head coach,” Morey stated. “He was our first choice due to his exceptional creative approach, diverse experience, and championship pedigree. We have faith that his guidance and experience will enable us to maximize the abilities of our outstanding team and usher in a thrilling new era of championship basketball in Philadelphia.”

Upon his appointment as Toronto’s ninth coach in June 2018, Nurse led the team to two of its three most successful seasons, culminating in a league-high.736 winning percentage (53-19) in 2019–20 that secured him the title of Coach of the Year. In his five seasons at the position, he amassed a coaching record of 227-163, which is good for the best winning percentage (.582) of any head coach in team history.

It is a privilege for me to take on the role of head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers, a legendary team in a city steeped in history. The nurse expressed gratitude to Josh Harris, David Blitzer, and the ownership group for this amazing opportunity. “Coaching against this group for the past five years has been a fun challenge.” I’m excited to lead the Sixers going forward and contribute to this amazing fan base.

As one of just three active NBA coaches with a postseason winning percentage of.610 (25-16), Nurse guided Toronto teams to the postseason in three of his five seasons. Before taking over as head coach for the first time in 2018, Nurse spent five seasons as the Raptors’ assistant coach, from 2013–14 to 2017–18. With more than 30 years of coaching experience under his belt, he has a distinguished G League career that includes two championships (2010–11 with Iowa Energy and 2012–13 with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers) and a Coach of the Year award from 2010–11. The only head coach in league history to win Coach of the Year honors in both the NBA and G League is Nurse.
