Almost five years after making just four Premier League starts for David Moyes’ team, Fornals left the London club to play in La Liga again.

Companion Said Benrahma also left at the same time, joining Real Betis for a reported £6.8 million, but he went to Ligue 1 club Lyon on loan.

Fornals’ departure from the team was not shocking because he had been on the team’s periphery for some time. However, in an interview with the Official Real Betis website, the 28-year-old provided a more thorough explanation of his departure.

“But, the club decided to pay a lot of money to bring in players at a certain point in its growth.” Through Hammers News, he claimed.

“In the end, you do not get to enjoy all the minutes you would like, and that makes your position more competitive.”

With Mohammed Kudus and Lucas Paqueta playing in the same position as the Spanish midfielder, it appeared as though Fornals was alluding to their recent acquisitions.

Fornals has started four of the five La Liga games since returning to Spain, and he has one goal, which he scored against Cadiz on his debut.
