After many years of waiting for an all-time player with a long history of winning, Kristaps finally welcomed him.

The 2016–17 New York Knicks have been a complete mess of an organization from beginning to end, from the owner to the president of basketball operations to the coach to the star to the franchise player in waiting to every other member of the team. It makes sense, then, that nearly a month after the conclusion of their season, they have managed to maintain their media attention with an odd weekend late-night tweet storm.

As you can see, around two in the morning on Friday, Knicks forward Kristaps Porzingis—who is currently spending his offseason in Europe—seriously tweeted, then deleted, the phrase “LA Clippers,” along with three smiley faces. That occurred at about 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, during Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinal series between the Toronto Raptors and Cleveland Cavaliers.

not escape notice or being captured on camera, either:

The previously mentioned franchise player in waiting is Porzingis. Additionally, he blew off his post-season exit interview due to his purported dissatisfaction with the basketball operations of the organization, which is said to have sparked a rush of trade proposals to team president Phil Jackson’s phone. Which is what prompted everyone who has been following the Knicks’ most recent story for the past few weeks to connect those reports to that tweet.

Adrian Wojnarowski and Chris Mannix of The Vertical revealed in January that the Knicks had inquired with the Clippers regarding a possible Carmelo Anthony trade.

It is possible that the Clips made a follow-up call after learning that a younger, more promising trade asset might be available. even though the trade couldn’t be finished right away. After Porzingis’ tweet, at least, that was the prevailing thought.

Why, after all, would a Knicks player on a random Friday night tweet about the Clippers? Naturally, Porzingis tried to clarify on Saturday, about eighteen hours later, with a few more tweets.
